It’s not hard to tell the kids are back in school. The big yellow school buses and the extra traffic are a tip-off that we’re heading into a busier time of the year. With the advent of September comes roads filled with school buses, children walking to and from school and parents dropping off/picking up their children in school zones. By taking some basic precautions, you can make driving a little less stressful at this time of the year.
- Allow extra time for travel during the morning so you don’t have to rush to your destination.
- Reduce your speed. This is especially important in neighborhoods where you know children walk to and from school.
- Obey School Zone speed limits.
- Be alert when driving through crosswalks and remember to yield to pedestrians.
- Always come to a complete stop for and do not pass school buses with red flashing lights and extended stop arms.
- Maximize visibility by replacing worn wiper blades and repairing chipped or cracked windshields.
